Our Frequently Asked Questions page is dedicated to answering our customers questions about their new or existing heating, air conditioning, or commercial refrigeration systems.
Q: How do I choose the right furnace?
If your furnace is very old, spending lots of money on modifications may not be a wise decision since new furnaces are considerably more energy efficient. Some of the major choices you need to make in choosing your system involve fuel type, furnace efficiency, and correct sizing. Take the time to make an informed decision that meets your needs based on your budget, home heating, and environmental goals. As trusted Glens Falls, Queensbury, Lake George and Saratoga Springs commercial and residential heating, cooling, and refrigeration contractors, LaPan’s Precision’s highly qualified and certified staff can help you choose the right furnace for your needs!
Q: How can I tell if my existing heating or air conditioning system needs to be replaced?
If your air conditioning or heating system is old, in need of serious repair, or you find yourself wondering why your utility bills are significantly higher than they should be, you might want to consider replacing it. Today’s systems are as much as 60% more efficient than the ones manufactured even ten years ago, meaning you can expect to see significant savings on your utility bills! Call LaPan’s Precision Inspections Division at (518) 798-0793 and let our knowledgeable staff give you a thorough analysis of your current system and make recommendations based on your needs.
Q: What is covered in my furnace or A/C warranty?
All of LaPan’s Precision products come with one year of parts and labor. The manufacturer’s warranty on each piece of equipment we sell depends upon the individual manufacturer, both for residential and commercial installations. Our well-informed staff will make sure you understand the terms of our warranties and are happy to answer any questions you may have about what is covered in your warranty.
Q: How long will a new furnace last?
New furnaces are made with a stainless steel heat exchanger that have lifetime warranties and can be expected to easily last for up to 20 years if properly maintained.
Q: What kind of preventative maintenance does my furnace need?
Preventative maintenance is crucial in the proper functioning, overall efficiency and safety of your HVAC/R equipment. LaPan’s Precision provides furnace and air conditioning preventative maintenance services for residential and commercial systems in the Saratoga Springs and Glens Falls NY region. You routinely have maintenance and inspections done to your vehicle, why would you not do it for the system that keeps your home warm or cool? Customers can rest assured that in an emergency, our 24 Hour Emergency Service technicians will do whatever it takes to get you up and running again!
Q: Why is my air conditioner dripping water?
Much of the time, the problem with an air conditioner dripping water is a problem that could have been prevented and discovered during a regular preventative maintenance appointment. However, if your unit is dripping water, there could be several reasons. One of the reasons may be that your drain line may be clogged, causing the drain pan to overflow. Other reasons include a disconnected drain line, low refrigerant level, a dirty filter, or poor duct work. These are just a few of the reasons why your air conditioner would drip water, but a thorough inspection of your system by LaPan’s Precision Inspections Division will determine the cause and schedule you for regular preventative maintenance.
Q: How do zoning systems work?
Zoning systems, when used properly, can help you save money on your energy bills…sometimes up to 30%! System zoning involves wiring multiple thermostats to a control panel to control the flow of air throughout your home or business. The thermostats read the temperature of their particular zone, and then open or close the dampers in the duct work to keep in accordance with the thermostat’s settings. How is this beneficial? Houses with inconsistent temperatures, such as drafty homes; or family members desiring different temperatures in different rooms, can maintain preferred temperatures.
Q: Will a new furnace or A/C save me money?
Absolutely! A new high efficiency furnace and/or air conditioner, installed by one of our highly trained technicians can save you thousands in energy bills over time. Call us today and find out just how much you could possibly save with a new system from LaPan’s Precision in Glens Falls NY!
Q: How often do I need to change my filter?
At a minimum, you should change your furnace filters every three months. This is a small price to pay (very small, because furnace filters cost anywhere between $2 and $14 depending on the quality) for maintaining clean air in your home and proper airflow. Quicker than you may believe, your filter gets clogged with dust, pollen, dander, hair, etc., until eventually it becomes difficult for air to pass through it, causing your blower to work harder and your energy bills to skyrocket! Should your blower motor overheat, you may be calling us for your Saratoga Springs and Glens Falls NY furnace HVAC repair, when we would much rather help you maintain your system with preventative maintenance inspections.
Q. How can I check the quality of the air in my home?
Molds, allergens, bacteria, fungal cultures, lead, smoke particulates, black carbon, and formaldehyde are just some of the harmful substances that can invade the air in our homes. Let us help you make the move towards cleaner, fresher air in your home! Contact LaPan’s Precision today and speak with a Certified IAQ Technician to set up an air quality inspection for your home.
